This song was released on a limited edition compilation at the 2014 Ypsilanti Heritage Festival. Since it was already "out there," and since I haven't released anything new in about 2 years, I thought I'd put it out as a single. I also wanted to highlight the work I've been doing with producer Jah Connery.
When I wrote this, I was taking a graduate school course about teaching culture to young people. It caused me to think a lot about cultural paradigms, and how in western cultures we are living under an illusion of straight lines and progress, while eastern traditions tend to view existence as more cyclical. I thought about the nature of the universe, from the extremely large (orbiting planets, elliptical galaxies) to the incredibly small (electrons moving around the nucleus of a cell). Everything is made up of circular patterns, while straight lines rarely exist outside of our own perception. Break it all down and it's all the same. Everything is one.
